Ep. 141 The Breath of Deep Grounding

This is a picture of Katie Silcox. The text reads, "Spirit Sessions: Find your true spiritual home with Katie Silcox."

In this episode, Katie shares a breathwork practice that she does consistently for grounding. When we speak of breath work or prana, we aren't only talking about bringing air into our body, oxygen, carbon dioxide, although of course those physical things are important, but we can also think of breathwork as a way of training ourselves to be able to tune to the inner. To be able to humble our intellect to life energy, your animal nature, your primal nature, and perhaps most importantly, the realm of the subtle. Tune in and ground yourself with this 15 minute guided practice.

In this episode you’ll hear:

~ How breathwork can help us tune into the subtle

~ 15 minute guided grounding breathwork practice with music

Ep. 140 Are Your Leggings Making You Sick?

This is a picture of Katie Silcox. The text reads, "Spirit Sessions: Find your true spiritual home with Katie Silcox."

In this episode, Katie shares a shocking new article and scientific studies about how some of the largest workout retailers are using harmful chemicals in their workout apparel. That’s right, our beloved leggings may be contributing to deleterious health consequences, especially for women. Tune in to get the scoop, plus learn about alternative options that are chemical-free.

In this episode you’ll hear:

~ Leggings are a staple wardrobe item and deeply loved by most women - but could they be toxic?

~ A recent Watchdog report shows testing reports that BPA, the chemical used to make plastic, among other yucky chemicals, is a component in a ton of our workout gear

~ BPA has been directly linked to health dangers like asthma, cardiovascular disease, obesity and more

~ Much of our leggings and workout gear also contain PFAs, which are also known as “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down, meaning they also accumulate over time in the environment and in our bodies

~ PFAs are hormone disrupting chemicals and linked to infertility, miscarriage, metabolic diseases and reduced vaccination response among many other things

~ A recent CNN article exposed some of the biggest brands that are using these chemicals in their products

~ The studies on yoga leggings mentioned by Mamavation can be found here

~ Katie’s Leggings Recommendations:

There are two brands that I found to have a “no chemical commitment.” In the spirit of transparency, I signed up for an affiliate with them because this project took hours of my valuable time and I believe in an equal energy exchange. Feel free to do your own research on products, but in my opinion, these two companies really stood out for their commitment to chemical-free and women’s health.

One of the best parts of our school is our incredi One of the best parts of our school is our incredible faculty. I always say that they are “smart ➕ heart.” Last week we had this beautiful goddess, @sandhiyaramaswamy - teaching the depths of Ayurveda Philosophy AND teaching us her mother’s recipes from her own kitchen. ❤️
Different foods require different digestive enzyme Different foods require different digestive enzymes to break them down.

Throwing two foods with dramatically different enzymatic requirements at your body is like yelling at your belly, "Hey, you, work harder!"

By avoiding these sad-belly food combinations, we make life easy for our poor little tummy, and it can respond by giving us great digestion and amazing glowy-ness.

Here's the deal:

1. Eating fruit alone is best. Melon should always be eaten alone.
2. Milk should be taken alone or with things that are sweet (grains, honey, brown sugar, etc.) Milk digests best when it is hot and spiced. Great milk spices include: cardamom, cinnamon, turmeric, black pepper, and nutmeg. Milk has a particularly hard time alongside bananas, sour fruits, yeasty breads, fish/meat, and yogurt.
3. Avoid eating any dairy products with fish.
4. Eggs don't mix well with fruit, milk, meat and yogurt.
5. Honey should never be boiled or cooked. Mix it with warming spices, warm milk or combine with ghee (in equal amounts by volume, not weight).
6. Nightshades (eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes) don't mix well with melon, cucumber or dairy.

Happy food combining! 🫚

They didn’t speak English, but they understood longing. You are not here on this planet to get the perfect You are not here on this planet to get the perfect poo.

The study of Ayurveda is not JUST to figure out how to get good health and great digestion.

The point of this school, and I think a life well lived, isn’t to eat perfectly and achieve flawless elimination…

The point of this practice is that we touch truth.

Ayurveda goes beyond just the physical.

Ayurveda is about developing our psychospiritual digestion, our capacity to burn through our ignorance and confusion about who we really are. ❤️‍🔥

This smoothie is a little love letter to pitta sea This smoothie is a little love letter to pitta season. 🌿🥥 Bananas, coconut, mint and coconut water all help replenish fluids, soothe excess heat and nourish the tissues, while spinach adds additional minerals and cacao nibs bring in a hint of richness.

I love to drink this as a mid-morning snack or afternoon pick-me-up on hot summer days. A cooler smoothie like this can dampen digestion if you have slow agni, so it’s best to drink it during peak pitta hours and avoid first thing in the morning or too late at night.

This recipe is especially supportive for those experiencing classic pitta signs like feeling overheated, irritability, acid reflux or inflammatory skin flare-ups.
