Episode 239 Transcript:

Hi, it's your Ayurveda gal, Friday, Katie Silcox, coming to you with a special bonus episode. It's a bonus because we keep getting asked this question, and I was like, you know what? I'm going to put this out on the podcast. As you know, or may not know, our only thing we do all year is January 14th.

It is a one-year Ayurveda health coaching certification, but it's also so much bigger than that. It is Lady Get Your Life Together School. Get your soul together. Remember what really matters, school.

Why do our students pursue their Ayurveda certification?

I'd say about 50%, maybe even a little more, of the people that come just come for themselves, and I love that. Sometimes they go on to do great things with our degree that they never imagined they would be interested in doing, but they do because they want to support other people.

Probably 50%, 60% of the people come because they want to be an Ayurveda health coach or an Ayurveda health counselor in our second-year program. The question we get is, what can I do with my Ayurveda certification as an Ayurveda health coach? How are the women using their Ayurveda certifications that have already gone through the school? We get that question a lot. I love it because I'm all about purpose and practicality and soul, but also paying the rent.

Making Ayurveda Your Career

I love watching women make this into a career, supplement a career. Some people are making great money from it. It's really exciting.

The number one way that people make money, create a career, a platform around Ayurveda health coaching is the classic, private, one-on-one coaching in person or online. When you become an Ayurveda health coach, you can support your clients with their digestion, stress, sleep, nervous system balance, seasonal living, cooking, herbs, lifestyle, hormones. It's deep, personal, transformational work.

It's absolutely the way that I started off. I started off as a one-on-one Ayurveda health coach. I remember someone being like, do you really think that you're qualified? Which is the most ridiculous question and, interestingly, often gets asked to women. Can you imagine, are you really qualified for this?

Helping People With Your Ayurveda Certification

I remember a friend of mine being like, the majority of the world, at least the Western world, is eating terribly. They don't even know that you shouldn't be eating raw foods in cold water in the winter. People are so disconnected from the basics of diet, nutrition, mind-body type.

We help people. Just in that most basic way can actually change people's entire health profile. Number two, women's health, menstrual health, fertility health, perimenopause, menopause, fertility support, burnout, adrenal fatigue. The women who come to Shakti School care about this because they've gone through it. They may be even going through it. Western medicine is just a little bit supportive but sometimes kind of confused about this.

If you don't have good gut health, you can't balance everything downstream. If you have stress, you can't balance everything downstream. So many of our women help other women feel normal again in their body in the most natural way possible without any shame around things like hormone replacement therapy or birth control. We want to meet women where they are, right?

Professional Specialties Within Ayurveda

I've seen so many women get into the hormone health business after graduating Ayurveda school with their Ayurveda certification and they have a leg up because they understand root cause, root cause. Number three, companies really need wellness and burnout prevention methods. I had a student go into her corporate job and be like, look, we need to do lunch and learn and stress reset programs.

What if we taught people just about their basic mind body type and seasonal living, burnout recovery, and they were welcomed with open arms because companies want their staff to be well, right? It's not great if you have people in your organization that are constantly getting colds, flu, sickness, menstrual issues. So this is often a well-paid way that people can use their Ayurveda health coaching program. Another really cool thing, and I love this because we actually have one of our graduates in the school doing this with us.

One of our beloved graduates teaches in our school a group course on resetting your digestion, a six to eight week program, a one day events. There's a million ways you can do this, but group programs and online courses are huge and they're just growing. So this is an awesome way that people can do this and it's scalable and accessible and deeply, deeply empowering for communities.

Retreats and Other IRL Experiences

Another way is just the classic retreats, immersive experiences, women's circles, IRL. I really think IRL is growing and going to be big. I think it sounds so ironic to say this, but IRL, in real life, people want to touch grass with you.

They want to go somewhere with you. We see students creating weekend retreats, week-long immersions, just meet me for the full moon and we're going to just talk about our body, right? And our emotions. It's so beautiful to create these life-changing containers.

And when you do Ayurveda school and have your Ayurveda certification, you are going to have so many tools and methods and philosophies and content. You could do the rest of your life doing women's circles and retreats just with what you learn in one to two years at Ayurveda school. We also have doctors, nurses, physician's assistants come to Shakti School.

These are some of my favorite people. I'm thinking of one woman in particular. She did Ayurveda school. She was OG. She was like, I think in my 2018 class and she's a doctor. She's a doctor from my hometown and I won't say her name, but she went to her hospital.

She was like, yo, we got, she didn't say yo, she was like, we got to get Ayurvedic, you know, living, natural living into our methods, you know? And so we work alongside with functional medicine doctors, but also acupuncturists, massage therapists, social workers, chiropractors. Your Ayurveda certification is like this amazing thread that weaves all of the disciplines together because we start with, you know, the root of the root. And it's so interesting. People don't know that Greek medicine, which is the grandfather of Western medicine and Ayurveda were having conversations throughout time. So the roots of all of our medicine is Ayurvedic, you know?

Ayurveda Influencers, Content Creators, Authors

We also see people just blow up online. I've had students who have far surpassed me in terms of their online presence and their follower count and, and I don't feel jealous at all.

I feel so stoked. I'm like, hell yeah, look at her go, you know? Usually they're like the younger women that know how to do all this stuff, but we teach you, we teach you. We have a gal that is a part of our school who comes in and she teaches you how to blow up your social media if you want that path. So content creation, writing, education, get a blog, get a social media, get a sub stack. Women come on and start podcasts. They write books.

Right now I am working with two of my former students who are writing their books and I'm their mentor and I'm helping them one-on-one. It's just so fun to do this. So you might write a book.

Ayurvedic Prenatal and Postpartum Support

You never know. Another Ayurveda certification and professional goldmine as a coach is postpartum, prenatal and recovery support for new mamas, caregivers, people also who are just like recovering from a really rough illness or surgery or just total burnout. So caregiving, even end of life care, there's so much tender, spirit laden work in helping people through these sacred portals, right? Especially our single moms who just might not have a lot of support to be an Ayurveda health coach to help her. People really like struggling with a long term illness, we can go in and be that coach support.

Spiritual Ayurveda School

Another big thing that you're able to do with your Ayurveda certification through our training, which I think makes it really unique is we are a spiritual Ayurveda school. There's just no getting around it and it's intentional on my part.

We're not dogmatic. We're not religious. You can bring whatever religion and background you come from, but we are going to help you understand energy and digesting your emotions and tapping into your purpose and feeling your roadblocks, aka subconscious stuff that has like gotten in your way forever. We're going to help you with that. It's definitely more than anything. Our course is a personal development coaching platform.

Because of that, if you do the work and you show up, you're going to be able to do it for other people and you want to. It's inevitable, right? When your life has been touched and changed, you want to help others. This really blends beautifully with a lot of the women that come with backgrounds in yoga and meditation.

We have a lot of people wanting to do this as like therapy adjacent work. We get a lot of therapists, marriage and family therapists. It's just such an honor and so beautiful to add this really important frame for people's work.

Creating a Wellness Brand

Lastly, many of our coaches go on to create their own wellness brand after receiving their Ayurveda certifications. We have had so many women create really cool product lines like herbs and oils and essential oils, tinctures, potions, butters, balms. It's beautiful. Others have gone on to create their own education platforms, their own schools or memberships online, their own portals for mentorship. This is so beautiful.

Ayurveda can really just become this foundation of their big vision. The most important thing is that the women that choose to make this a career, I want you to know there is a huge demand for you and what you are going to learn in level one. If you're on the fence, hey, come on through.

Ready to Pursue Your Ayurveda Certification?

Write us an email, info at the ShaktiSchool.com. We can set you up as well with a real life human coach that can talk to you about if the school is right for you. I think this podcast is probably going out a few days before the class has begun. You may be listening to it after.

Just know you can sign up for Ayurveda school throughout the month. We still have our doors open, assuming that we didn't just blow up too many people. We'd love to have you, so it's not too late to still join level one, the Shakti School.

I hope to see your beautiful face in the Zoom! If you're a podcast listener, make sure to put that in the chat when you come. It's January 14th, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern. This is coming up.

If you can't attend live, that is not a problem. You can watch it anytime, anytime after the class has happened. That goes for each week. We meet weekly, every single Wednesday. Ayurveda Wednesday, we call it.  We have a few breaks throughout the year. In general, we meet every Wednesday. We also have special Q&A sessions with an Ayurvedic practitioner, as well as incredible bonus classes, a community support group where you get to meet all your cool Ayurveda sisters from all over the world.

It is super fun. It's one of my favorite things about our school, is just how many international women we get. It's so beautiful, and we can all kind of hold hands. Kumbaya, I know, but it's true. Across the globe with all of our friends that have one common goal, and that's swasta, to be standing in the truth of who we really are. I can't wait to see you.

I hope to see you. Shoot me an email, info at theshockteaschool.com. We can make it happen for you. Now is the time!

See you soon.

Ayurveda views premenstrual symptoms as the manife Ayurveda views premenstrual symptoms as the manifestation of a doshic imbalance. Menstrual symptoms can reflect imbalance in any of the doshas, but typically, the premenstrual period is linked to vata and pitta dosha—things can get too dry, too heated or too emotional.

It’s especially important to tend to vata dosha during the luteal phase, the couple of weeks that precede your bleed. Tending to vata during this time means grounding, stabilizing and soothing the nervous system.

Here are some Ayurvedic recommendations for your luteal phase:

🍠 Eating For Your Luteal Phase

• Root vegetables - Carrots, parsnips, beets and sweet potatoes are deeply nourishing and grounding, helping to counter vata anxiety
• Ghee and healthy fats - Supports healthy hormones and nutrient absorption
• Steamed greens - Leafy greens offer vital nutrients and their bitterness and astringent qualities counter pitta’s heat
• Warm, cooked grains - Steady nourishment for smooth digestion and steady agni
• Soups and stews - Supports digestion and the nervous system at the same time—also beneficial for kapha types and kapha imbalances

🌿 Supportive Herbs & Spices

• Turmeric - Helps support the body’s detoxification pathways, aiding hormone regulation
• Ginger - Kindles agni and steadies digestion
• Ashwagandha - Provides essential nervous system steadiness through emotional waves
• Shatavari - Supports women’s hormonal balance; is cooling and moistening
• Brahmi - An Ayurvedic herb known for supporting mental ease and balance
• Cumin - Digestive aid soothing vata (aka goodbye gassiness!)
• Fennel - Cooling digestive support that helps reduce both vata and pitta
• Coriander - Pitta-reducing to help mitigate irritability and excess heat
• Sesame Seeds - Contain essential minerals and fatty acids that promote hormonal balance
• Fenugreek - Anti-inflammatory qualities may help ease menstrual discomfort
• Mint - Helps to cool and aid digestion, balancing both pitta and vata

Happy Mother’s Day to the mothers, the ones who Happy Mother’s Day to the mothers, the ones who long to be mothers, the ones navigating complicated or tender relationships with their mothers, and the ones learning to mother themselves in new ways. 🌺

Today we’re honoring the mothers of Team Shakti—the women who shaped us, held us, challenged us and loved us. When we asked our team to describe their mothers, these are just a few of the words that surfaced: generous, earth-conscious, devoted, vibrant, kind, thoughtful, adventurous, loving, supportive.

We’re also honoring the universal, inner threads that are woven through this holiday and offer something that we can each lean into, no matter our personal stories: the archetype of the Divine Mother. The Inner Mother who lives in all of us.

Reconnecting with this archetype allows us to become better mothers to ourselves, more compassionate in how we show up for others, and to begin healing the ancestral cords we carry from the lineage of women who came before us.

Today we are honoring all of it. The love, the complexity and the becoming. Happy Mother’s Day from Katie & Team Shakti! 💐💚✨🌸 Spread the love with us - share a photo of your mom or your stories and make sure to tag us so that we can reshare it!
We are currently being overloaded with pollen over We are currently being overloaded with pollen over here on the East Coast and it’s got me thinking about how we can all navigate allergy season with a little more support…

Allergies are a typical imbalance associated with Kapha season in Ayurveda (late-winter/early spring in the Northern Hemisphere). 💐

Ayurveda understands that allergies are the result of an outer allergen aggravating one of the doshas. Spring seasonal allergies are usually more Kapha-related, since Kapha dominates the environment this time of year.

An excess of Kapha dosha = sluggishness, mucous and water retention. (Read: classic allergy symptoms). 🤧

🐝 This is the formula for aiding your Kapha seasonal allergies:
👉🏽 Heat things up + boost circulation + clear and CLEANSE your bodies’ pathways.

Allergies don’t have to be your destiny. Reducing the effects of allergies comes down to boosting agni + reducing ama + supporting immunity.

Save this for allergy rescue. And let us know what makes the biggest difference for you this time of year. 🫡🌸
