She’s The First

She's The First Summit

Today I'm super excited to share with you something that's lightening up our hearts.

We are now honored to announce that in addition to our regular scholarship program, Shakti School is collaborating with one of the world's foremost organizations for supporting women in education and gender equality - She’s the First.

It is our hope to advance the cause of educating girls in South Asia specifically, given our love for ancient Indian medicine and our longing to give back to a culture whose rich history has given so much to humanity.

Now, when you invest in your health and your future through signing up for our Ayurveda programs, you're also helping create meaningful change in the world for other women.

ShesTheFirst
She's The First 2

She’s the First teams up with grassroots, women-led organizations worldwide to make sure girls are educated, respected, and heard.

Like Shakti School, She's the First believes in a world where every girl has access to education and can choose her own future. She's the First fights gender inequality through education by supporting the following local organizations: Shanti Bhavan in India and Blink Now in Nepal.

One of the best parts of our school is our incredi One of the best parts of our school is our incredible faculty. I always say that they are “smart ➕ heart.” Last week we had this beautiful goddess, @sandhiyaramaswamy - teaching the depths of Ayurveda Philosophy AND teaching us her mother’s recipes from her own kitchen. ❤️
Different foods require different digestive enzyme Different foods require different digestive enzymes to break them down.

Throwing two foods with dramatically different enzymatic requirements at your body is like yelling at your belly, "Hey, you, work harder!"

By avoiding these sad-belly food combinations, we make life easy for our poor little tummy, and it can respond by giving us great digestion and amazing glowy-ness.

Here's the deal:

1. Eating fruit alone is best. Melon should always be eaten alone.
2. Milk should be taken alone or with things that are sweet (grains, honey, brown sugar, etc.) Milk digests best when it is hot and spiced. Great milk spices include: cardamom, cinnamon, turmeric, black pepper, and nutmeg. Milk has a particularly hard time alongside bananas, sour fruits, yeasty breads, fish/meat, and yogurt.
3. Avoid eating any dairy products with fish.
4. Eggs don't mix well with fruit, milk, meat and yogurt.
5. Honey should never be boiled or cooked. Mix it with warming spices, warm milk or combine with ghee (in equal amounts by volume, not weight).
6. Nightshades (eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes) don't mix well with melon, cucumber or dairy.

Happy food combining! 🫚

As a daughter of the Tennessee and Virginia Appala As a daughter of the Tennessee and Virginia Appalachia, the loss of Dolly Parton feels like the loss of our tribal elder. Our spiritual mother. The middle path Priestess. Our hillbilly Oracle-ess. I will never forget watching video footage of a the Massai people in Africa, listening to her songs for the first time and weeping. They didn’t speak English, but they understood longing. They understood that the inner cry of nostalgia is as crystal blue as the smoky Mountains on a summer day and that there is nothing that separates us as people other than our lack of clear sight. Dolly, I’ve loved you since I was a kid. May you pass sweetly into the light. Kt
You are not here on this planet to get the perfect You are not here on this planet to get the perfect poo.

The study of Ayurveda is not JUST to figure out how to get good health and great digestion.

The point of this school, and I think a life well lived, isn’t to eat perfectly and achieve flawless elimination…

The point of this practice is that we touch truth.

Ayurveda goes beyond just the physical.

Ayurveda is about developing our psychospiritual digestion, our capacity to burn through our ignorance and confusion about who we really are. ❤️‍🔥

This smoothie is a little love letter to pitta sea This smoothie is a little love letter to pitta season. 🌿🥥 Bananas, coconut, mint and coconut water all help replenish fluids, soothe excess heat and nourish the tissues, while spinach adds additional minerals and cacao nibs bring in a hint of richness.

I love to drink this as a mid-morning snack or afternoon pick-me-up on hot summer days. A cooler smoothie like this can dampen digestion if you have slow agni, so it’s best to drink it during peak pitta hours and avoid first thing in the morning or too late at night.

This recipe is especially supportive for those experiencing classic pitta signs like feeling overheated, irritability, acid reflux or inflammatory skin flare-ups.

If you’re ready to learn how to eat, live and move in harmony with your unique constitution through every season of the year, our 2027 Ayurvedic Wellness Coach Certification Training is now enrolling with early bird pricing!
