Simple Spring Pea Soup

Blog Featured Image (1200 × 628 px) (1)

One of the keys to good digestion in Ayurveda is keeping things SIMPLE. Less complicated meals give our digestive fire a chance to rest and truly metabolize the fuel we’re feeding the fire.

Peas are light, astringent and slightly drying—aka they help balance kapha’s natural heaviness and tendency to hold onto all the things (mucus, water, emotional clutter... you name it). Plus, they're packed with protein and fiber without being overly dense.

On top of that, soup is basically kapha’s best friend. It’s warm, light AND easy to digest. Broth and veggie-based soups are the perfect go-to option for spring dinners that aren’t too heavy! Enjoy! 🌿

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons sunflower or olive oil
  • 4 spring onions, finely minced
  • 1 leek, chopped
  • 1 cup vegetable or chicken stock
  • 1½ cups fresh peas, shelled
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

In a small saucepan, sauté the spring onions and leek over medium-low heat for about 2 minutes, until translucent. Add the stock and bring to a boil. Add the peas and cook until bright green and slightly tender. (This depends on their size, but should only take a few moments.)

Using a blender, purée the soup until very smooth. Add the lemon juice and season with salt and pepper to taste. Drizzle a little extra-virgin olive oil on top or add a dab of yogurt for garnish. Serve warm or chilled.

Most people don’t know this story about me but… Most people don’t know this story about me but…

I used to be that “I have to do everything myself” kinda’ woman.

You know - the hardcore, “No one can do this the way I can” kinda’ gal.

I took care of myself because at one point in my life I had to. I “didn’t need anyone else.” I could “do it alone.” I could meditate for hours solo. Trust in only myself. I was a rock and an island.

And then I got pretty sick.

I won’t bore you with the details, but let’s just say this: The most important thing I learned during my healing time was that I needed support.

I learned that healing doesn’t happen alone, but in relationships and in COMMUNITY.

I got a great therapist.

I gave my staff more roles and responsibilities, trusting that not only could they handle their jobs, but they were BETTER at certain things than I was.

I got a great Ayurveda team of healers and functional medicine support.

I got an AMAZING group of women and men friends in my hometown.

I got a dog.

I let go of my dating snobbery and got on an app.

I started to let the STUDENTS of The Shakti School even deeper into my heart. I began to see myself less as “the teacher” (although I’m a darn good one), and more as just one of the amazing souls that came to Ayurveda School every Wednesday to study health and spirituality.

I heard stories from our students about how they had made the best friendships, business connections and healer connections of their life - THROUGH OUR SCHOOL. I saw them meet one another for the first time in person and light up like they were meeting a long lost sister.

This week is the LAST week to join the year-long Level 1 program with early bird tuition - the last chance to save $500 when you sign up.

When you join, I can promise you this, you will have a spiritual home.

You will never have to heal alone again.

With my heart,
Katie

I have some BIG news!! ✨ I am SO excited to offic I have some BIG news!! ✨

I am SO excited to officially welcome the incredible Salila Sukumaran as one of The Shakti School’s newest teachers! ❤️

I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Salila on my Spirit Sessions podcast for a beautiful, juicy conversation about feminine embodiment, the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda and what it really means to come home to our bodies.

We dove into the power of Shakti, ancestral wisdom, feminine sovereignty and the importance of reconnecting with the deep intelligence and wisdom that lives within us as women.

One of my greatest passions has always been bringing the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda into the lives of modern women in a way that feels accessible, nourishing and deeply empowering.

And this is why I’m SO thrilled to have Salila joining us at The Shakti School! She brings such a beautiful depth of knowledge, a rich Ayurvedic lineage, and a unique perspective on what it means to truly EMBODY this wisdom.

There is something so powerful about women coming together to share, teach and keep these ancient traditions alive. And I couldn’t be more excited for our students to learn from her!

It was the end of our Level 2 last year, a class w It was the end of our Level 2 last year, a class where we give women time and space to really share what the two years of Shakti Ayurveda School have meant for them (yes, this can be a one or two year adventure). And a woman said something I will never forget - “I’m becoming the woman of my dreams.”

It hit me in all the right places and even made me self reflect.

Am I the woman of my dreams? And if I had a dream woman, what would she be like?

She would be kind, hold dignity, love her body and try to keep it safe and healthy and warm. She would give herself grace when she failed or tripped up in life. She would smile lovingly at herself when she said the wrong thing at a party or a date or a conference. She would eat good nourishing food and be OK with the fact that she didn’t look like the women in a magazine.

But mostly, she would use this one and sacred life to learn the lessons of her soul, and feel alive in her mission to help others do the same.

We are genuinely here to support you in becoming THAT woman. Or even better said, in dusting off all the veils that block you from seeing that You Are Her Now. We truly find that the LIVE Ayurveda experience offers a magic that you will see in our classroom. And that magic translates to anyone doing the course at their leisure the rest of the month.

True. Ayurveda. Magic.

Ladies! Only a couple more weeks to get $500+ off this women-our-your-dreams year with our current early bird pricing. I will be there. And so will so many other dream seekers. Will you?

💚 Comment AYURVEDASCHOOL for more information about our earlybird tuition!
